GLOW: THE STORY OF THE GORGEOUS LADIES OF WRESTLING (Brett Whitcomb, USA). 76 minutes. Subtitled. Rating: NNN
Crafting an oral history of the famed all-female GLOW wrestling organization (which only lasted from 1986 to 1990), Brett Whitcomb revels in the now nostalgic 1980s Saturday-afternoon television show’s big hair, skimpy outfits and silly scripted routines.
Told by the wrestlers who lived it, the story starts slowly thanks to lack of cooperation from the show’s creator and director. Eventually, the anecdotes add up to something sweet and genuinely heartfelt that will appeal to the uninitiated.
A word of warning: GLOW also contains a graphic shot of one of the most horrific injuries ever captured on tape.
