Tarted up, re-branded and raring to go, iMAGES 2001 stands out as the old-school survivor in the yearly riot of spring festivals. The 14th edition sees exec director Kelly Langgard and new artistic honcho Chris Gehman shepherding over 150 new, truly independent workds to screen at both Innis Town Hall and the Bloor Cinema. iMAGES opens with the compacted Japanese love story Body Drop Asphalt (Thursday, April 12, 8pm, Bloor) and closes with the spectacle of Art Dyke 2001 (April 21, 9pm, Innis), a super-8 throwdown hosted by Roy Mitchell and Jane Farrow. In between, dasy and nights of unpredictable projections. Less the festival of shorts that it once was, iMAGES is a celebration of art with a running time. Here are some highlights.
