JEFF (Chris James Thompson, USA). 75 minutes. Rating: NNN
Despite dealing with a sensational subject that made headlines, this Jeffrey Dahmer doc does everything in its power to bring its titular serial killer down to earth.
In re-enactments, Dahmer purchases pet fish, bleach and a big fucking barrel, coming across as just a really awkward white guy who has some peculiar laundry methods. The film intercuts these reconstructions, which steer clear of the grisly stuff, with testimonials from Dahmer’s neighbour, interrogating officer and the coroner who had to make sense of all the disassembled body parts in his apartment. What they have to say is insightful – in a predictable way.
