(Raiders Of The Lost Ark, 1981) looked progressive 20 years ago, with Allen arm-wrestling and tossing back the booze in a Himalayan bar while former lover Indiana Jones teaches school. But as the film wears on, Allen's Marion becomes less and less competent, relying on Indy to save her.
HARRISON FORD & KATE CAPSHAW (Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom, 1984) have a certain sparkle, but nightclub singer Capshaw isn't Indy's adventure peer -- she's a bad date he can't shake and way too girly for our hero.
RICHARD CHAMBERLAIN & SHARON STONE (King Solomon's Mines, 1985) are truly annoying lovers/adventurers. As Allan Quatermain, Chamberlain looks about as rugged as a Beanie Baby with a beard, and Stone, in a grating, high-pitched voice, mostly harps at him. They've got the chemistry of a wet fuse.
Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, 1999) are a classic brawn-and-brains couple, but Weisz shows a knack for physical stunts. Carrie-Anne Moss's awesome turn in The Matrix raised the bar for all female action co-stars, sending the wimpy girl out the window.
