One Day After Peace

ONE DAY AFTER PEACE (Miri Laufer, Erez Laufer, Israel, South Africa). 86 minutes. Subtitled. Rating: NNN

Grieving the death of her son – a soldier killed by a Palestinian sniper at a checkpoint – Robi Damelin embarks on a mission to achieve reconciliation with his killer.

But the perpetrator is resisting. And he’s not the only one – Damelin’s other son thinks she’s out of her mind.

The directors wind up exploring the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa, Damelin’s country of origin, where she talks to people whose lives were transformed by the airing of testimony from perpetrators and victims of the apartheid regime.

This doc packs a huge emotional charge, but the focus is slightly blurred.
