Stretching It

Rating: NNNN

RUN LOLA RUN (Tom Tykwer), with its repetitive, game-like structure and relentless forward movement, is one of the most watchable films of the last five years. The energetic heroine (Franka Potente) has to raise a large sum of money and get it to her boyfriend Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu) before he’s killed or decides to rob a supermarket to get it himself. After Winter Sleepers, Tykwer’s style is more than a little flashy, but it’s hard to argue with someone who can successfully spread 25 minutes of narrative material across an 80-minute film. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that Tykwer composed the film’s “so catchy you can’t get it out of your head” techno soundtrack. NNNN (Thursday, October 4, Goethe Institute)
