The Doc Days Of Summer

Hi, everybody! We’re putting the finishing touches on next week’s big splashy TIFF Buzz issue right now, which means running from one screening room to another – and when we’re not watching movies, we’re booking interviews and filing capsule reviews from our phones and trying to remember the last time we ate something.

So I hope you’ll forgive this week’s web column being a little light … though, in fairness, there’s not much to write about this weekend. Everything slows down at the end of August.

This detail is not lost upon the programmers at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, where they’ve scheduled a special retrospective series they’re calling Doc Days Of Summer. Over the next couple of weeks, until TIFF starts up, the theatre will host repeat screenings of some of the most popular documentaries of 2015.

The lineup includes Crystal Moselle’s The Wolfpack, Brett Morgen’s Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck, Alex Gibney’s Going Clear: Scientology And The Prison Of Belief and Asif Kapadia’s brilliant Amy.

If you’ve missed any of them, here’s an excellent opportunity to catch up. Me, I have to go buy a handful of nuts or something before the Kiyoshi Kurosawa screening.
