Filmmaker Doug Block has photographed his daughter Lucy since she was a tyke and continues to do so right before she leaves the nest for college – much to Lucy’s chagrin.

Like an in-house paparazzo, Block doesn’t notice that while he’s busy filming memories and trying to make a movie out of them, he’s missing the intimate moments that are worth remembering. What’s captivating about The Kids Grow Up is the man behind the camera. Block attempts to conduct relationships through a lens and approaches the medium as a way to come to terms with his life.
The fact that he’s completely aware of what he’s doing through this autobiographical therapy session makes him that much more pitiful, contradictory and compelling.
