Thursday’s TIFF party picks

Best bets for celeb spotting during the festival’s final days. Door crash at your own risk.

U2 are in town for one more show tonight at the Rogers Centre so is there a chance Bono and co. will be at Dundas Square this afternoon for the screening of U2: Rattle and Hum?

One of two Chanel flicks vying for fashionista attention and attendance this fall, Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky has its after party at Cheval. Don’t show up expecting Audrey Tautou. She’s in the other one, Coco Avant Chanel (or Coco Before Chanel as our freedom fry-eating neighbours to the south are calling it).

Cheval is also hosting tomorrow night’s after party for Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Who not to expect at this one? Johnny Depp we’re told but you can ask star Christopher Plummer which character he misses playing more, Captain Von Trapp in the Sound of Music or Alexander Addington on Counterstrike?

The TIFF awards are also Friday night at the Intercontinental. Most Hollywood celebs will have left us in their dust at this point. Maybe if The Men Who Stare At Goats wins something, they’ll send a buck in a Vitamin Water t-shirt to accept on George Clooney’s behalf?

Also, film festival scoops in 140 characters:

  • Asked to see the fancy stuff in Swarovski’s TIFF suite and got shown the bejewelled Starcatcher bag Kristin Scott Thomas carried Tuesday.
  • Morning TIFF talk in Yorkville: “you can feel the energy going whewwww!” “Everyone’s crashing!”
  • TIFF chatter at this morning’s LG Fashion Week brunch. Is Natalie Portman vegan? One PR was thinking of gifting her leather.
  • The tale at one TIFF party tonight: an Italian film producer who had a suitcase full of €8000 stolen from the Four Seasons lobby today.
  • Not so scoopy after all. Another TIFF-er informs me the Four Seasons theft has already been written up.
