PLEASURE DOME PRESENTS APOTHEOSES OF EVERYTHING: THE VIDEO ART OF JUBAL BROWN AND DANIEL BORINS
Rating:NNN
If your ears are buzzing with ineluctable Christmas cheer and your mouth feels tacky with an afterfilm of eggnog, you need a dose of Borins and Brown. Their program of astringent videos offers some Olympic-level mind games, including The Apotheosis Of Everything, Borins’s giddy freefall into pop-cultural paranoia. Brown chips in with The Operation, which is as nearly literally visceral as you probably want to get in a video. Prepare to squeeze your eyes shut during, and then discuss the implications over a nice gristly plate of souvlaki afterwards.
He’s also got an annotated Dr. Who episode that draws unexpected links between goofy old British science fiction TV shows and the Paris uprising of May 1968. (December 13, Latvian House)
