Yuk it up

Rating: NNN

World Of Comedy International Film Festival Rating: NNN

This local yuk fest’s second incarnation offers five features, four programs of shorts and three seminars over five days. While the anti-Valentine’s feature, British mockumentary The Most Unromantic Man In The World (February 14, 9 pm), is more horrifying than funny, its portrait of a surly, mullet-headed porn addict and his downtrodden but ever hopeful wife is a potent antidote to seasonal sugar shock.

The shorts programs range from the ridiculous to the more ridiculous. Notably, program #1 (February 12, 7 pm) features Dog Given Rights, in which an all-singin’, all-dancin’ cast of local actors in canine drag perform a heartwarming musical about man-dog love. Much better than Cats. On the same program, 72 Faced Liar is a dryly Kafka-ish British morality tale about a man cursed to wear a seemingly infinite series of rubber masks of public figures from the 80s.

The Animation program (February 15, 3 pm) includes a new instalment, subtitled Cats Or Dogs, of the always charming Creature Comforts series of claymation interviews with lowbrows from Aardman Animation.

Seminars ($10/ticket, $25/pass) include Writing For Animation, From Stage To Screen and Back To Basics: Things They Don’t Teach You In Film School.

(Innis Town Hall, February 11-15).
