FOOD, INC. (Alliance, 2008) D: Robert Kenner. Rating: NNNN DVD package: NNN Rating: NNNN

If you don’t already know what big business methods have done to our food supply and the people and animals involved in it, Food, Inc. provides a solid introduction.

Director Robert Kenner takes us through the cycle of debt imposed on chicken farmers by the four leading meat companies, the upswing in E. coli deaths due to beef processing methods, chemical giant Monsanto’s relentless suits against the farmers who resist the company’s proprietary genetically modified soybeans, and a lot more.

Kenner focuses on people’s stories, uses facts and figures for context and avoids most of the graphic horror of factory farming. He wants viewers to think, and, to that end, provides a good resource guide in the extras.

EXTRAS Nightline segment, public service announcements, resources guide. English, French audio. No subtitles.
