Blood Sisters

BLOOD SISTERS (Malin Andersson, Sweden/Ireland/Denmark/Finland/Norway/France). 83 minutes. Rating: NN

Twins Julia and Johanna survived a month-long abduction together when they were nine years old, a horrifying event that perhaps forced them closer together as much as it left them feeling isolated from everyone else.

Malin Andersson’s doc catches up with the twins as they separate for the first time, Johanna heading to college and Julia to marriage. She visit them as they linger or do laundry, going about their downtime while nothing significant happens. Andersson tries to capture the intimacy between the sisters, but no such luck.

Every casual conversation has a staged, disingenuous air, as if Julia and Johanna are performing their bond for the camera as opposed to the camera simply recording it. RS
