FUTURE BABY (Maria Arlamovsky, Austria). 91 minutes. Rating: NN
Maria Arlamovsky travels all over the world, including to the Czech Republic, Israel, Spain, Mexico and the U.S., to talk with doctors, patients and thinkers about the myriad issues, ethical and clinical, surrounding in vitro fertilization in all its forms.
It’s a gripping subject, but the doc, though competently shot, has almost nothing of visual interest. If you want to illustrate these labs as baby factories, show us something that looks like an assembly line. Except for one moment, when a surrogate refuses to hold the baby she’s just delivered, there’s not much heart either.
All the talking heads’ ideas are available by surfing the net. They don’t require this kind of movie.
