Keep on TIFFing

Maybe it’s just wishful thinking on the part of the party people who keep the TIFF scene ticking but there’s usually a feeling that, come Monday, the festival’s social schedule scales down.

As if. Invites arrived yesterday for tonight’s Janie Jones party including a performance by Little Miss Sunshine herself Abigail Breslin and a Bridle Path bash on Wednesday to toast the Bang Bang Club cast. And last night was the first of three evenings at the Festival Music House.

For the first time, TIFF has partnered with Arts & Crafts to produce a series of by-invite-only concerts that offer up screening and cocktail party relief just when we need it. The Stars, Chilly Gonzales and Coeur de Pirate all performed at last night’s opening show.

Tuesday night, it’s Hawksley Workman and CFC barbecue band Tokyo Police Club. Wednesday brings out Gord Downie and Born Ruffians.

Monday’s star sightings:

How’s this for slowing down. Kevin Spacey, Scott Speedman and Paul Giamatti at last night’s E1 Entertainment party at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Marion Cotillard, Rachel Weisz and Hayden Christensen in Variety magazine’s studio at Holt Renfrew. And walking red carpets across town: Natalie Portman with Vincent Cassel at Black Swan, Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckart at Rabbit Hole and Uma Thurman at Ceremony.

DIESEL took a break from swagging celebs at its Intercontinental Hotel TIFF headquarters (Rachel Lefevre and Olivia Newton John have both been by and picked up some fresh denim) to host a fashion editor brunch complete with a live feed of its New York Fashion Week show. “We were asking editors if they needed seats in New York and they were like, ‘are you kidding, it’s TIFF!’ so we thought this would be a nice idea,” said Diesel’s Christina Krcevinac.

According to her Twitter feed, Peaches Geldof‘s take on Toronto while she was in town to DJ half an hour of Ubisoft’s Sunday night party included observations like “Wow they have laser tag at this party!” and “So I just got this bbm from @thecobrasnake: “Toronto is fun. U need me to surround u with sexy hipsters in Canada, let me know”.
