A-Team

THE A-TEAM (Joe Carnahan). 117 minutes. Opens Friday (June 11). For venues, trailers and times, see Movies. Rating: NNN

Do you enjoy watching stuff explode? Who doesn’t, right? Well, Joe Carnahan would like to reintroduce you to The A-Team.[rssbreak]

Carnahan’s big-screen, big-budget update of the beloved 80s TV series is an origin story of sorts, relaunching the show’s renegade heroes as an Army covert-ops unit framed for a crime they didn’t commit. Several crimes, actually everything’s bigger this time around.

Thus, calculating Hannibal (Liam Neeson), ladies’ man Face (Bradley Cooper), bruiser B.A. (Quinton “Rampage” Jackson) and howling mad Murdock (District 9’s Sharlto Copley) break out of military prison to clear their names, with a dubious CIA operative (Patrick Wilson) and Face’s ex-girlfriend (Jessica Biel) in pursuit.

The plot places a distant third to elaborate action sequences – the thing with the flying tank is a high point – and considerable goofing around amongst the leads.

Fans of the show should definitely stay through the end credits.
