The Brothers Solomon
(D: Bob Odenkirk, 91 min)
Call it counter-programming. As the fall film season kicks off with the serious Oscar bait being sneak-peeked at the Toronto International Film Festival, what's a dumb comedy-lover to watch? The answer is The Brothers Solomon, directed by Bob Odenkirk, one-half of the legendary Mr. Show team (along with Arrested Development's David Cross). Those weird and wonderful Wills (Will Arnett and Will Forte) play a pair of home-schooled, socially awkward brothers whose dying father's last wish is to see a grandchild. So the two boys must meet someone and mate. Look for comedy regulars David Koechner and Bill Hader to get some guaranteed laughs.
Opens Friday (September 7). Screened after press time - see review September 7 at www.nowtoronto.com/film.
