Will Ferrell has come a long way since A Night At The Roxbury. After his comedy hat trick of Old School, Elf and Anchorman, the SNL alumnus delivered a great Woody Allen impression in Melinda And Melinda.
Later this summer he comes under the spell of Nicole Kidman in Bewitched, but first he plays a kids' soccer coach who takes the game too seriously in Kicking & Screaming . Some good casting choices include Robert Duvall as his competitive father - he's the Great Santini, after all - and Mike Ditka playing himself.
The trailers are hilarious, with Ferrell doing the frustrated kid thing to the max. Hmmm... can a career-changing dramatic role be far away? Opens Friday (May 13). For venues and times, see Movies, page 102. Screened after press time. See review May 12 at www.nowtoronto.com/film.
