Doom (D: Andrzej Bartkowiak, 109 min)
Devotees of the video game Doom are salivating in anticipation of the screen version hoping it’s as decent as Resident Evil and at least a little better than the Lara Croft franchise. It’s not always a good sign when a director takes over a project midway, but Andrzej Bartkowiak knows action (Exit Wounds, Romeo Must Die) and has impressive cinematography credits (Speed). Here he helms the story of kick-ass space marines sent in to find out who’s terrorizing the researchers working at a remote space station on Mars. The Rock steps into the role of Sarge to wrestle with the enemy.
