(D: Glen Morgan, 84 min)
Thanks to last year's December 25 release of Wolf Creek, it's become a new holiday tradition to celebrate the birth of Christ with the death of lots of pretty young things. Call it sadistic counter-programming to those bloated, earnest Oscar wannabes.
This year's horror holiday entry is, appropriately enough, a remake of Bob Clark's 1974 slasher/serial killer flick, which was shot in Toronto on a shoestring budget and starred Margot Kidder, Olivia Hussey and a pre-SCTV Andrea Martin as a bunch of sorority sisters stuck in a house of hell. Martin returns as the house mother in this sequel directed by X Files/Final Destination guru Glen Morgan . The students include Michelle Trachtenberg and Mary Elizabeth Winstead , ingenues-in-training looking for that big breakout role. Opens Monday (December 25). Screened after press time -- see review December 22 at www.nowtoronto. com/film.
