BALLS OF FURY (Ben Garant). 88 minutes. Rating: NN
Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant are best known for their creative work on Reno 911, but they also share screenplay credit on some very bad movies: Taxi, The Pacifier, Herbie Fully Loaded and Night At The Museum.
The difference between those scripts and Balls Of Fury is that Balls Of Fury, an unacknowledged comic remake of Mortal Kombat, is supposed to be funny. Of course, so was Let’s Go To Prison, another of their disasters.
Dan Fogler stars as Randy Daytona, a former ping-pong prodigy now working a Reno lounge act, who’s recruited to infiltrate a big illegal ping-pong tournament run by evil master criminal Feng.
Feng is played by Christopher Walken , which may be all you need to know. If you’ve ever wanted to watch Walken play an apparently Asian – but not played as such – criminal genius, this movie is for you.
If Walken as Fu Manchu doesn’t appeal, don’t bother with this defiantly lowbrow parody. It’s occasionally funny – and all the laughs aren’t in the trailer. On the other hand, the DVD will probably have funnier outtakes of star Fogler getting hit in the balls.
