DIE ANOTHER DAY (Lee Tamahori)
This is the 20th Bond movie in 40 years -- and George Lucas thinks he's got a franchise. It's also Pierce Brosnan's fourth go-round and the first Bond picture to feature two Academy Award winners in the cast, Judi Dench returning as M and Halle Berry as Jinx. Despite the Bond franchise's resistance to name directors (both Steven Spielberg and John Woo have expressed an interest in Bond-age), they've got a good one in Lee Tamahori, the Kiwi helmer of Once Were Warriors and The Edge. They've also got so much product placement that wags are dissing the film as Buy Another Day. But that's all kind of irrelevant, as is the relentless marketing. Just put up "new Bond movie" on the marquee and people will come. 122 minutes.
