Boogeyman

Boogeyman (directed by Stephen T. Kay, 86 mins) Rating: NNNNN

With producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert ‘s names attached to this project – they’re the horror-meisters behind the Evil Dead movies – this could be good enough to spawn another cult series. Normal 20-something guy Tim ( Barry Watson ) has a thing about closets. They freak him out, and it has nothing to do with his sexuality.

Childhood tales about the Boogeyman came true when, as a kid, he witnessed his dad getting sucked into his closet one night.

Now, one steady girlfriend and years of child psychiatry later, he’s back home, with his hand on the doorknob.

Sounds promising. As a bonus, Tim’s mom is played by Xena: Warrior Princess’s Lucy Lawless . € Opens Friday (February 4). For venues and times, see Movies, page 86. Screened after press time. See review February 4 at www.nowtoronto.com/film.
