Brave Bubble

THE BUBBLE (Eytan Fox, Israel). 117 minutes. Subtitled. Sunday (May 20), 7 pm, Isabel Bader. Rating: NNN Rating: NNN

Reviews : Red Without Blue

Director Eytan Fox follows up his gay art house crossover hits Yossi & Jagger and Walk On Water with this ambitious look at a handful of idealistic Israelis who try to get a Palestinian guy (Yousef Sweid) to stay illegally in Tel Aviv.

What starts out as a breezy sex comedy – think Friends: Israel – soon becomes more thoughtful and disturbing. The title refers to the escapist bubble that people live in, and presumably he’s showing us the reality here. Despite some melodrama and a tacky rave scene, there are good performances all around.

Guaranteed to ignite some arguments.
