In September of 2007, Burma’s monks staged a mass protest against their country’s repressive military regime, which responded by banning foreign media from their soil. What little video footage made it to the outside world was shot clandestinely by the citizen journalists of the Democratic Voice of Burma. That footage makes up the bulk of this gripping ground-level documentary.

With the young DVB producer known only as “Joshua” providing context through voiceover, Anders Østergaard assembles the raw footage into an invaluable historical document – and one that’s suspenseful, harrowing and thrilling in equal measure.
