BOY CULTURE (Q. Allan Brocka, U.S.). 88 minutes. Tonight (Thursday, May 18), 8 pm. Isabel Bader. Rating: NN Rating: NN
Boy Culture makes Queer As Folk look profound. The uninspired choice for the festival's opening gala focuses on X ( Derek Magyar ), an emotionally vacant high-priced Seattle escort who shares a gorgeous loft with two young gay guys, one of whom he has a crush on and the other who has a crush on him.
There's also a new client to deal with, a reclusive septuagenarian (veteran character actor Patrick Bauchau channelling Hannibal Lecter) who would rather talk than fuck. Too much precious narration betrays the film's origins as a novel, and none of the characters or dialogue is convincing. Seattle looks nice, though.
