DREAMS WITH SHARP TEETH (D: Erik Nelson, U.S.). 94 minutes. April 24, 9:30 pm, Isabel Bader; April 26, 9:30 pm, Bloor. Rating: NNNN
Erik Nelson 's visually charged look at the life and work of visionary science-fiction writer Harlan Ellison borders on hagiography but is no less entertaining for it. Alternating Ellison's own readings of his texts -- including a clip from the original draft of his legendary Star Trek episode The City On The Edge Of Forever -- with interviews with famous friends such as Neil Gaiman, Dan Simmons and, um, Robin Williams and clips of the famously irascible Ellison in full righteous outrage, it's a tremendously entertaining overview of a brilliant career.
And if you come away from the film wanting to dig out your old copies of Deathbird Stories and the Glass Teat collections, well, that's cool, too.
