Fag Hags drag

FAG HAGS: WOMEN WHO LOVE GAY MEN (Justine Pimlott, Canada). 52 minutes. Sunday (May 22), 7:15 pm, Cumberland.
Rating: NN Rating: NN

In Fag Hags, the team behind ladies’ boxing miniseries Punch Like A Girl start with a campily fabulous concept and take it only a fraction as far as they could – and should – have.

Mixing awesome archival clips of famous fags and their hags and chatty interviews with a trio of odd couples in Toronto and San Francisco, the doc explores how the peculiar pairs met cute and connected.

San Fran duo Dodie and Kevin actually got hitched, and their story is the most interesting of these dull narratives. The filmmakers don’t provide enough context for us to understand the effect these usually platonic relationships have on the romantic lives of either “partner.”

And why is everyone so bloody white? Surely, there’s a Paris Is Burning alum out there whose great gal pal has stories to tell.
