SCOTT WALKER: 30 CENTURY MAN (Stephen Kijak, UK/USA). 95 minutes. Saturday (April 21), 7:15 pm, ROM; Sunday (April 22), 9:15 pm, Royal. Rating: NNN Rating: NNN
American singer/songwriter Scott Walker started out in a 60s boy band, graduated to an unconventional solo career and slipped in and out of the spotlight, influencing a generation of British musicians including David Bowie, Lulu and Sting.
This wide-ranging doc feels just as enigmatic and elusive as Walker himself, who has continued to push the boundaries of music (one intervewee says these "aren't songs") during yet another comeback in 2006. There's a good sample of his work from all periods, and lots of compliments from another generation of musicians who have discovered his uncategorizable sounds.
