Here is the harrowing story of the Sonderkomando, Jews who, in return for a few months’ life, worked processing death at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Nelson adapts his own play and tackles tough moral dilemmas this is Schindler’s List stripped of sentiment. But these Hungarians and Poles talk clipped, aggressive, David Mamet English, while Harvey Keitel, as the camp commander, adopts a German accent. It’s a strategy that’s smart and weird at the same time. Still, the film has undeniable power. 108 minutes
