IGBY GOES DOWN (Burr Steers) Rating: NNNN
Igby Goes Down might just score an Oscar nomination for Kieran Culkin, who turns in an iconic performance as a messed-up rich kid trying to duck responsibility. It's like The Royal Tenenbaums tempered with The Catcher In The Rye. Igby is a product of a pilled-up mom (Susan Sarandon), a locked-up dad (Bill Pullman) and Jeff Goldblum as a brilliantly oily godfather. His entry into New York boho society ain't exactly smooth. Culkin crafts a subtle, sympathetic performance from a character written to be an asshole, and Clare Danes, as his near-match, is all thrills. 97 minutes.
