LIFE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT (Stephen Herek) Rating: NNNNN
Angelina Jolie is cast as Lanie Kerigan, a peroxide-blond TV news reporter sent to talk to a homeless psychic (Tony Shalhoub) who tells her she will die in a week. The smug Lanie has seven days to try to change her personality in order to change her fate. Director Herek (Rock Star, 101 Dalmations, Mr. Holland's Opus) takes a big risk by asking Jolie to anchor a comedy, something the intense performer has never done. He takes another one casting her alongside Ed Burns (Sidewalks Of New York, The Brothers McMullen), an acerbic, gruff leading man whose natural acting style may rub Jolie's more dramatic style the wrong way. That said, Life looks to be an intriguing, feel-good drama showcasing Jolie, who, no matter what you may think about her wacky personal life, glows when she's in front of a movie camera. 110 minutes.
