Love Happens

LOVE HAPPENS (Brandon Camp). 109 minutes. Opens Friday (September 18). Rating: NN

Love Happens, but only a hint of it. And that’s after a whole lot of mourning and self-evaluation in this peculiarly drab romantic dramedy.

Aaron Eckhart plays Burke Ryan, a widower who has yet to confront his own wife’s tragic death but still conjures up a popular self-help seminar for others experiencing bereavement. Jennifer Aniston, in a role obviously written for someone a decade younger, is quirky florist Eloise, who drives a hippie minibus and scribbles cute and puzzling words for Burke to find.

The two stars strut their movie star stuff but lack chemistry, so when love finally happens, it’s kind of hard to swallow.

Turbulent emotions find false resolutions in a cliché-riddled movie that feels like it was adapted from a hundred Hallmark cards.
