MACHOTAILDROP (Corey Adams, Alex Craig). 91 minutes. Opens Friday (June 11) at the Royal. See Indie & Rep Film. Rating: NN
Machotaildrop’s timely satiric targets include the corporate exploitation of athletes and street culture and the emptiness of fame, but the execution is neither insightful nor particularly funny.[rssbreak]
Young Walter dreams of skateboarding glory, gets a corporate sponsorship and discovers the shabby truth behind the glitzy facade. The hidden-mansion corporate headquarters and grandfatherly ogre CEO (a good comic turn by James Faulkner) give the proceedings a fairy-tale air, but Anthony Amedori’s Walter is so perfectly vapid that he comes across as stupid rather than innocent.
