Meet Dave stars Eddie Murphy as Dave, the titular cyborg spaceship that houses a crew of cockroach-sized aliens on a mission in Manhattan. The alien crew and their captain (Murphy once again) control and give voice to the lumbering Dave while using Earth’s most popular knowledge resources – Google and Yahoo – to interpret our foreign planet. But there’s nothing foreign about the movie and its recycled gags. Murphy’s Dave is little more than a repeat of the stiff-white-man caricatures from his 80s routines and his vintage SNL skit about racial passing, White Like Me. With its racial implications dulled down, Murphy’s formerly cutting-edge material now comes in childproof packaging.
