this relentless portrait of misery, which won of the fipresci prize at last year’s Cannes Festival, reminds us that FIPRESCI juries tend to reject fun. That said, it is a powerful film about a young mom who has a very bad relationship with her parents and tends to be irresponsible in her life decisions. It’s very well made, but it’s also the dramatic equivalent of watching someone beat her head against a wall for 90 minutes. johnh@nowtoronto.com
