BROKEN LIZARD’S CLUB DREAD

(Jay Chandrasekhar) spoofs slasher movies, a daring and fun idea – if this were 1987. A gaggle of hot young bodies are being killed on a resort island overseen by Coconut Pete (Bill Paxton, who’s pretty funny), a cut-rate Jimmy Buffet. That’s actually a funny idea – faded pop star running a resort that trades on his fading fame and the fact that he mostly can’t remember the late 70s. Club Dread is from the Broken Lizard comedy troupe that made Super Troopers, the cop spoof that was sort of funnier than this one. It’s a very bad sign when the outtakes in the end credits are funnier than any joke in the movie. 110 min. N
