Mummy’s a Wrap

Rating: NNNNN

THE MUMMY RETURNS (Stephen Sommers) picks up eight years after the first film, with former Legionnaire Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser), his Egyptologist wife, Evelyn (Rachel Weisz), and their son, Alex (Freddie Boath), living happily in London. When Evelyn starts having bad dreams about an ancient Egyptian Scorpion King (WWF’s The Rock), the couple know there’s undead trouble brewing. Special-effects technology has exploded in the short two years since The Mummy was released, allowing director Sommers to include more elaborate action sequences. But the success of this growing franchise of films is riding on its blend of great effects, fast-paced and funny scripts and the undeniable chemistry between the feisty Weisz and matinee-idol star Fraser. 110 minutes.
