OCEAN’S ELEVEN (Steven Soderbergh) is an extremely loose remake of the old Rat Pack movie about what happens when a gaggle of old army buddies get together to knock over some Vegas casinos. One thing Soderbergh and star George Clooney agreed on was that the original had a great concept, but was not in itself particularly good — you can compare and contrast for yourself when Moviepix rolls out some screenings of the original in letterbox format, beginning Friday evening. Soderbergh is on an unbelievable hot streak — Out Of Sight, The Limey, Erin Brockovich and Traffic. He also won a directing Oscar for the last and the undying loyalty of Julia Roberts, whom he directed to an Oscar in Brockovich and who will appear in the Angie Dickinson role in Ocean’s Eleven. Along with Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Elliot Gould, Andy Garcia and Carl Reiner To hell with the movie, I just want to hear the commentary tracks on the DVD next year. 120 minutes. (JH)
