Out at the Wedding

OUT AT THE WEDDING (Lee Friedlander, U.S.) 96 minutes. Friday (May 16), 7:30 pm, Isabel Bader. Rating: NN

I can tolerate the coincidences that strain credulity in the fine art of farce, but dumb is dumb not matter how you cut it.

In Out At The Wedding, Alex (Andrea Marcellus) has been lying to her African-American/Jewish fiancé about her racist family, telling him they’re all dead.

At the wedding of her sister Jeannie (Desi Lydic), her date, fag friend Jonathan (Charlie Schlatter), gives the mistaken impression that Alex is a lesbian, which is fine with Alex as long as it hides the fact that her fiancé is a black man. But now she has two things to lie about.

When Jeannie wants to visit her in New York, Jonathan and Alex hatch a plot to hire a lesbian who’ll act as Jeannie’s girlfriend.Hire a lesbian? Why doesn’t Jonathan have any dyke friends who’ll do him a favour? And who would even care about someone who can’t stop lying? It makes you wonder who’s supposed to like this picture.

Lesbian-for-hire Cathy DeBuono is pretty hot, though.
