PROM NIGHT IN MISSISSIPPI (Paul Saltzman, Canada). 90 minutes. Thursday (May 7), 6:30 pm, Bloor Sunday (May 10), 1:30 pm, Royal. Rating: NNNN
Director Paul Saltzman found a historical moment and ran with it. Thanks to actor and alumnus Morgan Freeman, who funded the whole event, Charleston High in Mississippi had its first racially integrated prom in 2008.

Saltzman descends on the scene to find out what students, teachers and parents are thinking as the kids finally take their friendships out of the classroom and onto the dance floor.
As usual, the kids are way ahead of their elders, especially an interracial couple who discover prejudice’s unfortunate resilience and the power of their own love.
Once we’re at the prom, there’s a huge emotional payoff.
Totally inspiring.
