Rare French Fare

Rating: NNNNN

CINEFRANCO: A CELEBRATION OF FRENCH-LANGUAGE FILMS offers a wide array of Quebecois and French films in one tight package. This is the only time you’re likely to see these films, which have escaped distribution in English-speaking Canada. Don’t miss the fascinating A Question Of Taste (Saturday, March 31, 5:30 pm), directed by Bernard Rapp, which focuses on the symbiotic, psychologically bizarre relationship between a powerful businessman (Bernard Giraudeau) and his food taster (Jean-Pierre Lorit). Quebec is well-represented with the opening-night film, 15 Fevrier 1839 (Thursday, March 29, 8 pm), a historical drama about the final day in the life of condemned Quebec patriots François de Lorimier (Luc Picard) and Charles Hindelang (Frédéric Gilles). Also worth seeing is the very matter-of-fact but surprisingly compelling Crime Scenes (Saturday, March 31, 3:30 pm), which follows two cops looking for a serial killer. See Rep Cinemas, page 90, for the complete schedule. NNN
