Shark Night 3D

SHARK NIGHT 3D (David R. Ellis). 85 minutes. Opens Friday (September 2). See listing. Rating: NN

Shark Night 3D is a really dumb horror movie that at least delivers on the promise of a night of sharks – in 3-D and everything! – endured by a handful of Louisiana college students who make the mistake of spending a weekend at a saltwater lake infested with man-eaters.

Screenwriters Will Hayes and Jesse Studenberg deserve points for (mostly) letting characters react to their situation with some intelligence, but director David R. Ellis (Final Destination 2, Snakes On A Plane) is really just in it for the bloody effects, which he executes with gusto.

If you do see it, make sure you stay all the way through the end credits for the cast’s weirdly compelling music video.
