SUPERHERO MOVIE is a moderately funny parody patterned on the Scary Movie model. It’s full of low humour and people getting whacked on the head. Unlike the Scary Movies at their best, and worst, Superhero Movie refrains from throwing in every gag around. As a result, there’s nothing outrageously brilliant or original here, just a string of well-played, decent gags laid over a story that’s mostly Spider-Man with a brief detour into The X-Men franchise. The cast, including a well-used Leslie Nielsen and Miles Fisher (doing a hilarious Tom Cruise), excel in energetic cluelessness. Writer/ director Craig Mazin keeps things moving along quickly. The film runs a mere 85 minutes, with lots of deleted scenes interspersed in the endless closing credits.
