The most inventive fiction writer could never dream up someone like Jorgen Laursen Vig, the crotchety 82-year-old Danish bachelor who looks like Ebenezer Scrooge, has never experienced love and has a mysterious complex about people's noses.
When Vig invites a group of Russian Orthodox Church followers into a decrepit monastery he owns, he comes up against a young nun (Sister Ambrosija) who's got her own ideas about monastery renovation. The two make a hilarious and ultimately moving pair of souls brought together to serve a Higher Being.
Director Pernille Rose Gronkjaer quietly draws candid and intimate details from Vig's life, and she films in a way that gives her all-too-human subjects and their beliefs dignity and grace. Unlike anything you'll see again.
