The Passion Recut (directed by Mel Gibson, 121 mins)
The title sounds like a sick joke - open up a few more wounds on the Christ man - but this time no one's laughing. Or arguing. Not after your film pulls in $611 million at the box office.
Mel Gibson 's The Passion Of The Christ , his controversial look at the final 12 hours of Jesus of Nazareth's life, has been re-edited for the family crowd. Seems the original, the top-grossing R-rated flick of all time, was a tad too violent. Not something for the family to discuss after hunting for chocolate Easter eggs.
The rejigged film, starring Jim Caviezel as the bearded one, opens in 40 to 50 Canadian markets this weekend. Opens Friday (March 11). For venues and times, see Movies, page 92. No advance screening. See review March 11 at www.nowtoronto.com/film.
