UNCERTAIN TERMS (Nathan Silver). 71 minutes. Rating: NNN
Where to watch: Netflix
Nathan Silver, director of Exit Elena and Soft In The Head, delivers another spiky, micro-budget indie drama.
In the middle of nowhere – maybe upstate New York? – Robbie (David Dahlbom), an angry 30-year-old, is spending a few days fixing up his aunt’s home for pregnant teens.
There’s not much to do after work, and before long he finds himself drawn to Nina (India Menuez), a resident who’s having problems with her unsupportive boyfriend (Casey Drogin).
In a few brief scenes, Silver creates a convincing world where his characters glance off one another, gradually revealing who they are and where they’re coming from.
The story doesn’t develop as much as deepen, which might frustrate people looking for a simpler, less intuitive drama, but it worked just fine for me.
