Under the Sea 3D

UNDER THE SEA 3D (Howard Hall). 40 minutes. Opens Friday (February 13). For venues and times, see Movies. Rating: NNN

A dazzling travelogue with an airy Jim Carrey narration, Under The Sea 3D is an alternative for those of us who can’t afford to go scuba diving off southern Australia.

This breathtaking aquatic tour immerses us among the deep-sea critters, many of which could seem at home in Guillermo del Toro’s next creature feature. It’s a worthwhile adventure, if only for director Howard Hall’s striking underwater compositions. And the 3-D makes the most of snakes that slither right through you and sea lions that pucker up for a smooch.

You have to wonder, though, if the mere 40-minute run time might be a waste for those who have to travel just as long to see it.
