Underclassman

Rating: NNN

UNDERCLASSMAN (Marcos Siega) follows the Fresh Prince-esque mayhem that ensues when you enroll a boy from da ‘hood (Nick Cannon as a young undercover cop working to bust a crime ring) in one of the preppiest prep schools in L.A. The stage is set for the passably charming Cannon to crack dozens of corny fish-out-of-water jokes like, ‘In my old neighbourhood, getting crabs is something totally different’ while ordering at a restaurant. The rest is a cute action flick in the key of PG-13 — the guns are out, but no one’s getting shot. Pedestrian but still fun, with a worrisomely anemic Cheech Marin. 90 min. NNN
