WATERLIFE (Kevin McMahon, Canada). 109 minutes. Saturday (May 2), 7 pm May 10, 4:15 pm, Isabel Bader. Rating: NN
The damage visited by humanity upon all five Great Lakes is chronicled in Kevin McMahon’s earnest but ultimately exasperating documentary, which delivers an urgent environmental message in the most didactic fashion imaginable. (More forgiving audiences might call it “classical.”)

McMahon’s heart is clearly in the right place, but his presentation is simplistic and redundant, covering each lake separately and linking the segments with naive footage of a native woman standing at the water’s edge looking sad. This might have some merit as a grade school educational tool, but kids are pretty sophisticated these days.
